Bioflocculants from wastewater: Insights into adsorption affinity, flocculation mechanisms and mixed particle flocculation based on biopolymer size-fractionation

چکیده
Microbial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) produced from wastewater are generally heterodispersed, which is expected to influence their flocculation performances and mechanism, particularly in mixed particle systems. The different molecular weight (MW) fractions should contribute the overall adsorption affinity mechanism of EPS single dual clay harvested bioreactors were size-fractionated into high, medium low MW (HMW, MMW, LMW, respectively). its characterised by diverse analytical techniques coupled with optical reflectometry investigate role each fraction kaolinite montmorillonite In systems, both HMW-EPS showed comparable performances. However, proved be more efficient than for flocculation. Site blocking effects observed EPS: LMW MMW first adsorbed surface due higher diffusivities faster mass transfer interface, while slowly transported but attached irreversibly stronger LMW/MMW-EPS. We propose this, a mechanism: extended anionic polymer tails solution, thereby enhancing

Investigating the Effect of Coagulation and Flocculation - Adsorption Process on Boron Removal from Industrial Wastewater (Case Study: Ceramic Tile Industry)
Background and Objectives: Boron is widely found in raw materials and wastewater of the tile industry and its removal from aquatic environments is very complex. The aim of this study was to remove boron from wastewater of ceramic tile industry using coagulation and flocculation-adsorption process. Materials and Methods: This was an experimental study. Initially, for the coagulation process, pH...
متن کاملAssessment of Endotoxin Removal from Reclaimed Wastewater Using Coagulation-Flocculation
Following biological treatment, wastewater continues to have endotoxic active materials. However, because there is a trend of potable reuse and because endotoxic active materials potentially have harmful effects on human health, their removal from water is crucial. Lipopolysaccharide endotoxin has hydrophobic groups, and their removal using a coagulation-flocculation alternative is believed to ...
متن کاملRemoval of phenol from water by adsorption-flocculation using organobentonite.
Bentonite modified with short chain cationic surfactant might be the basis of a new approach to removing organic pollutants from water. The treatment process involves dispersing bentonite to the contaminated water and then adding a small cationic surfactant so as to result in flocs which are agglomerates of organobentonite and bound organic pollutants. The flocs are then removed from the soluti...
متن کاملFluid shear influences on flocculation Fluid shear influences on flocculation
The tube flocculator is used to study how fluid shear levels affect the settling properties of a flocculated alum-kaolin suspension. FReTA is employed to quantitatively compare the effects of varying fluid shear and hydraulic residence time on the sedimentation velocity distributions and the post-sedimentation residual turbidities of flocculated suspensions formed in the tube flocculator. Resul...

Introduction: Seafood processing wastewater, which contain high concentrations of pollutants discharged to receiving waters, will reduced the quality of these water resources. The present study was conducted to assess the quality and treatability of wastewater result from fish market in Bandar Abbas using coagulation – flocculation process. Methods: This research was a cross sectional stu...
